The Challenge

Since getting started in 1982 on the Chesapeake Bay, Westminster-Canterbury has evolved into one of the most value-added Life Plan Communities in the Hampton Roads region. A nonprofit life care community, Westminster-Canterbury provides a vibrant lifestyle for seniors 62 years of age and older who have worked hard their entire lives and deserve not just beautiful homes but peaceful, lively and pleasant experiences.

Westminster-Canterbury approached TechArk with two different initiatives.The first one involved reviewing their existing Resident Portal website and helping reimagine a portal to provide immense value to their residents.The second one was to review and analyze their Birdsong platform and provide recommendations for various innovative apps for this platform. Both of these projects needed to run in parallel as they were looking for a quick turnaround.

The Solution

TechArk engaged two of our team members to drive these initiatives and run them in parallel in order to deliver the expected results. Our software architects and business analysts got involved with the client’s IT team to initiate the Discovery phase for the Birdsong platform. We met with the client in several in-person meetings to understand their detailed requirements and the challenges with the platform. We also analyzed how the current platform was operating and the limitations we were working within to suggest a robust solution to the client. Over the course of four weeks, TechArk reviewed the existing platform and provided the detailed discovery findings to the customer.

In addition, TechArk’s web design and development team started working closely with the client to review the challenges with the Resident Portal. We realized that the existing portal was very limited because it was developed using Google Sites. The website needed to be completely reimagined to cater to the specific demographics visiting the website. The fonts needed to be much bigger, the images needed to be more vivid and larger and the overall colors needed to facilitate a joyful experience for the residents of their community. Our design team delivered high-fidelity mockups of all the various pages of the Resident Portal. After getting approval on our designs, we guided the customer with their selection of the stock photography.

TechArk delivered a stunningly beautiful looking website that is also very functional and continues to engage with the Westminster-Canterbury team for their ongoing needs including their website hosting and ongoing maintenance.
